Poetry: Soft Whispers

…Sometimes being a friend is just being. A free verse poetry about friendship and love. A digital piece of art to accentuate the verse.

It was the silence,
that gripping quietness.
His hurt with no words.
I could feel his pain
as it bled through
to my soul.
I could see it through
his baby blues.
He fought to hide it,
but the language was there.
I walked to him,
embracing his body
with my very being.
And then I felt it,
that soft whisper
of love as he received it.
I just held him
as liquid pain
ran down his cheeks.

  1. Powerful ending with the words “liquid pain”. It’s so true. Sometimes all one can do is be there.

  5. Jumped over from John Fioravanti’s reposting of this poem at the end of his musings on the nature of friendship. It is truly lovely.

With the following words you point up something that is often left out of discussions of friends and friendships – gestures of love and caring must be received before they can be returned so friendship can deepen:
    “And then I felt it,
    that soft whisper
of love as he received it.”
